The Student-Teacher Benefits of Using Zoom, Matthew Dewey, The Penned Sleuth, Zoom is a web-communication service which has grown in popularity for its power, speed and clarity. With there being so many lacklustre services of a similar nature, Zoom has shown the world why it is the go-to choice for video-calling anyone. Here are some clear benefits for teachers and students!
Zoom is a web-communication service which has grown in popularity for its power, speed and clarity. With there being so many lacklustre services of a similar nature, Zoom has shown the world why it is the go-to choice for video-calling anyone.

Here are some clear benefits for teachers and students!

1. Zoom’s Built-in Chat

One of the great features for managing students or communicating questions to a teacher is using the Chat feature.

With this feature, students can pose questions they weren’t confident enough to ask in person. In addition, the teacher can answer with ease, even providing resources to help the student in just a few clicks.

Chat allows easy communication with all students, making announcements or important updates. The chat can also be used for separate conversations, much like a messenger application, for the students who need more attention to help get a better grip on the subject.

To add to that point further, video meetings have a built-in chat as well, allowing students without a microphone to still participate in the meeting.

2. Zoom's Outstanding Quality

Zoom has grown popular for other reasons, one of which being the stability and quality of their video calls. In the past, many communication services brag the same features, but the delivery is poor, resulting in broken video calls or distorted audio.

The clarity in a lesson is truly important, as time spent clarifying what one said takes time away from teaching something else. For reasons such as this, Zoom has pushed many meeting software out of the race, as they cannot provide the same measure of dependability and quality.

It all comes down to the hosting service and the Zoom developers did a fantastic job.

3. Zoom's Meeting Options

Zoom hosts a variety of features for meetings, such as the ability to share one’s computer screen. A simple feature like this allows a user to showcase an entire presentation, be it for the teacher or students.

Everyone participating in the meeting can expand the presenter’s screen, making the setup process as easy as two clicks. In addition to that, if one doesn’t have a presentation prepared or wishes to demonstrate something, Zoom has a built-in whiteboard that allows the host to make their point clearly.

As an added bonus, the host can allow students to draw on the whiteboard and even save the whiteboard as an image for later reference.

To end this point, Zoom allows users to record their meetings. If you are a pro user, you can have a meeting that lasts up to 24 hours and record the entire meeting on your device. Audio and video files will be saved, in case you want to turn the result into a YouTube video or a podcast.

4. Anywhere, Any Device

Now, this benefit is simple. A meeting can be hosted on any device and joined from any device, anywhere.

For whatever reason, you are unable to use your PC or laptop, you can always join a lesson from your phone or tablet. All you need is the invite and any device with an internet connection, making joining a meeting as easy as checking your email on the nearest device.

For those who are always moving, Zoom makes your life a little bit easier.

5. Relaxed Lessons, Enjoyable Learning

One of the greatest benefits of teaching and learning through Zoom is comfort. It is better to be relaxed and focused, than uncomfortable and distracted. Zoom allows a teacher and student to teach and learn from the comfort of their own home.

Online teaching has grown so much popular over the years thanks to this ultimate benefit, allowing students to learn and study easier. A student absorbs more of a lesson if they are comfortable, making each lesson more productive and effective.

Anything that saves you time also saves you money. If you are a student, this benefit can save you from paying for more lessons and if you are a teacher, this can allow you more time to teach other students.

With students enjoying their study and teachers reaching more students, this is a definite win-win situation.

BONUS: Zoom is Free!

For this bonus point, I would like to highlight the fact that Zoom is free!

Now, this is always a great benefit when it comes to using useful software, but it gets better. Many of Zoom’s best features are available with the free version fo the software. Recording lessons, sharing screens, the whiteboard, the chat, you name it!

Conclusion

Zoom is a service that interested me in the beginning, but I made use of another software. In retrospect, I realise that much of my work would have been made easier if I made the switch sooner.

Even calls to the other side of the world were easier and clearer. With such useful software at my disposal, teaching became more enjoyable than it ever was, as I no longer had to deal with simple, but frustrating technical problems.

I highly recommend it for anyone, not just students and teachers. On that note, anyone using Zoom, but struggling to make use of its many features, I have guide available, How to Use Zoom Like a Boss. I show you, step-by-step with pictures, how to use Zoom to its fullest.
