Ocean Floor
Everyone has always wondered what was at the bottom of the deepest ocean. A mixture of foreboding and curiosity washes over them when they think of it now, but I've been down there. I've stood on the ocean floor and stared straight up. There was so much water between me and the surface you shouldn't see light, but I did. Through all the pressure surrounding me I could feel all that was around me. The environment gave me peace, not fear.
Light cascaded down in beams of pure light and graced the dark sand at the bottom. I moved so slowly on the ocean floor, the pressure immense. I would spend a century just raising my hand in that water. It was like trying to run your fingers through rock. So difficult to do, but given enough time you would be able to do it. Given enough time molecules succumb to your force and move aside for you to pass. Of course I experienced so many changes in that time. Thousands of years passed me in seconds, yet to me I could still endure the age. I never died, never lived, just existed.
The time came when light shined down on me. They warmed my cold skin and opened my mind. Suddenly the water didn't seem to pressure me so much. The light drifted away with time and the pressure returned. I knew this was my chance, the chance I've been waiting for. The chance to leave the darkness and the feelings it created. In the past the light had passed me before and I didn't use the time right, but now I had the chance to make something of this time. I had to ascend to the surface through all that nature has put me through.
I waited even longer for this light to return, lifetimes before I felt the warmth hit the edge of my skin and drift over me. With the pressure lessened I pushed my arms down, pushed the darkness down, and raised myself up. I floated with the light towards the top of the ocean. The journey was so difficult, but I didn't stop. At times it felt like I would sink back down into the abyss and that would be the end, but I just swam harder. No more, it was time for me to ascend to the top and I would not let the opportunity pass me by.
The darkness, it's own, sinister lights tried to pull be back, but as long as I felt the warmth of that innocent light I kept rising. I kept fighting against my captives. Making my way upwards, escaping the darkness is all I desired. I would fight it to the end, I would fight it through all that it through at me. I made my peace with death, now I had to accept life. I could feel the future calling me like an ever-distant voice. A voice that wanted me to succeed in my desires once I had some beyond escape. I would fight for that voice, I would die for that voice. That voice that has given me so much love with its wonderful heart. I would make it, I had to make it.
Past the halfway point the pressure didn't exist. I no longer had to swim to follow the light. The light saw me and wanted me to rise. It stayed with me and I with it. I felt so much stronger. I felt unstoppable when the force that's been holding me down was no longer an issue. The last half took so little time to wade through that I could almost breathe the pure air. I felt hands wrap around me, a warm cheek against mine. The embrace was all the comfort in the world and it held me tight. I felt the life-times of tension fade in that hold and I drank it in. There was the ripple of the surface water, light dancing in streaks.
I raised my hand ahead of me as I approached the surface. My hand felt the air that so many don't appreciate. It felt the warm rays of light, the kindness of the world and the honesty it gave that nobody could love, but me. I felt everything good in the world and all the evil that plagued me for so long disappeared. Soon my whole body was above water and I was standing atop the water. What I felt was indescribable. I felt something people wished for, but could never attain. I felt the one feeling that everyone should feel. From the moment life begins to when it ends people should feel this love.
I didn't have to look up anymore. I just had to see what was in front of me the whole time. I saw you, the warm light, and the power that gave me strength and destroyed the darkness I felt on the ocean floor. I smiled a smile that would last an eternity and you smiled with me. It was a moment of true excitement and the weakness I had in the darkness was now my strength. The poison left my body and I stood once more a man in the open world. I stood once more a human and you stood with me, waiting all this time, calling out to me. You were the light that freed me and it is only now that I had the confidence to meet that light. I thank you, now and forever for what you have done for me.
Each step I take with you now is a step towards bettering ourselves. Bettering who we are alone and who we are together. I journey that will have its lapses of darkness, but a journey that is filled only with one thing, us. We have been on a collision course since birth and now we make our own way. A way others never saw for us, but a way we always saw for ourselves. Let us go home.
